Under the hood
The Techniques
NameTwist is not a black box. Every name comes with a label telling you exactly which technique produced it. Here is the full toolkit.
Orthographic
Change how the word is spelled or sounded.
Replace vowels with related sounds to soften or sharpen a word.
Remove interior vowels to compress a word into a hard, clipped form.
Insert vowels into clusters to make a word flow and sing.
Swap consonants for sharper or softer cousins.
Force a hard, aggressive onset onto a word.
Double a letter to add rhythm and emphasis.
Read the word backwards, then clean up the result.
Drop the first letters to reveal a hidden name inside.
Cut a word down to its strongest stem.
Swap two neighbouring letters to make the familiar strange.
Add accents, umlauts and diaereses for a foreign flavour.
Keep the sound, change the spelling.
Lexical
Attach, replace or combine whole morphemes and roots.
Attach a flavoured morpheme to the front.
Attach a flavoured ending to complete the name.
